Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
A fatal accident took place on Second Hooghly bridge around 7:30 AM when a private car, after crossing the toll gate, suddenly changed lanes and collided with a scooter. The impact threw both riders off the vehicle, causing one to hit his head on the footpath. The deceased has been identified as Manoj Shah, a resident of Banbihari Basu Road in Howrah. His brother, who was riding pillion, sustained critical injuries and has been admitted to the hospital.
Eyewitnesses stated that the car was moving recklessly and violated lane discipline immediately after crossing the toll. The scooter was severely damaged due to the impact. Police have begun an investigation and are analyzing CCTV footage from the toll plaza and surrounding areas to identify the vehicle and driver involved. No arrests have been made so far.
Traffic movement on the bridge was briefly affected after the accident but was restored following police intervention. Authorities have urged motorists to follow lane rules to prevent further incidents. The injured victim’s condition remains critical, and doctors are monitoring his progress. The deceased’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and further legal proceedings are underway.
